International Visiting Teachers Program

As an English medium school, Sree Ram School believes that it is important for our children to be exposed to native English speakers. Therefore, we have instituted our International Visiting Teachers Program and hope to enjoy the services of at least one International Teacher each school year. In the 2006-07 school year, the program was inaugurated with the visit of art teacher, Valerie Dearing, from Baltimore , Maryland , USA . In addition to being our first visiting teacher, Valerie has been a steadfast supporter of Sree Ram School , staging fundraising events and enlisting other U.S. supporters, and a member of our Advisory Board.

Arriving on December 17, Valerie was with us for 5 weeks of instruction, followed by eleven days of touring with our Director, Bharati Nair, her husband Sateesh Kumar, and “Mama” Vani Devi, Chairperson of the Sree Ram Advisory Board and another U.S. citizen and Sree Ram supporter.

The Sree Ram students now agree that art is their favorite subject. In addition to daily student instructions, Valerie arranged an art exchange program between Sree Ram students and her Baltimore students from School of the Incarnation, who sent their congratulatory works of art as inaugural gifts. She also taught Sree Ram’s teachers to integrate art into their daily classes in every subject and left detailed instructions, as well as a large donation of art supplies from her friends in Maryland . This talented teacher left a deep impression on our students and, now home in the U.S. , she is working to persuade other friends and teachers to come for a similar experience.
